Chris Storey, Chair of Sudbury in Bloom, was invited to talk to Chris Wiley on the gardening program on Suffolk Sounds. He was delighted to be given an opportunity to not only discuss the signs but also to discuss the work of Sudbury in Bloom and to encourage visits to Sudbury to see what an attractive town we have. Sudbury in Bloom would encourage you to listen to the show and to hear the positive approach to community that we have on show and the importance of securing this future by ensuring that there is an ongoing ability to use the roundabouts that have historically been used to promote Sudbury in Bloom. The interview is at the start of the Chris Wiley’s show on Sunday 24 November with the program starting at 9.00am Listen to podcast: https://listenagain.suffolksound.com/download/1510/?tmstv=1721657920 Listen again: https://listenagain.suffolksound.com/player/sunday/0900/ https://suffolksound.com/speakers/chris-wiley/ If you haven't already, please sign our petition to have our signs returned: sudburysurvey.uk

We have had some great coverage from both the East Anglian Daily Times and the Suffolk Free Press over the removal of our roundabout signs by Suffolk County Council agents. These sponsorship signs are vital for funding our work around town and the removal of them is potentially a huge blow to our voluntary group. You can see details of all the areas we maintain on our Portfolio page. Pleas support our cause by signing our petition at sudburysurvey.uk
We have started a petition at change.org and are calling on as many people as possible to sign it: click here to sign the petition 'Restore the Sudbury In Bloom signs on Sudbury's Roundabouts'. Craig, owner of Sudbury McDonalds, said: “We have worked with Sudbury in Bloom for several years now and we know quality and recognise it in Sudbury in Bloom. We are very concerned for their future and support their request for the signs return.” Sam from Howdens added: “We consider Sudbury in Bloom to be top drawer and with the finest of runners. We have worked with them for a number of years and are hopeful that they can be allowed to resume their great work.”
Total income of Sudbury in Bloom is around £6,000 per year and some sponsorship in kind (compost etc.). From this Sudbury in Bloom buy materials to carry out work that, if fully costed, would probably amount to in the region of £30,000 per annum.
Failure to restore our signs will therefore significantly impact the appearance and wellbeing of the town as a whole. It is for this reason that we have launched a petition through Change.org at – sudburysurvey.uk - to restore Sudbury in Bloom signs to the roundabouts and to ensure that Suffolk County Council issue a full apology as well as reinstatement of the signs and to grant a guaranteed exclusive licence to Sudbury in Bloom to continue using the roundabouts for sponsorship on a rolling ten year basis at a cost not exceeding £1 per annum (including any training insisted on) for so long as Sudbury in Bloom continue. Not much to ask in the circumstances and we would welcome a collaborative and supportive approach from the county council which we anticipate shortly! A small team gave Sudbury Railway Station a tidy-up at the latest working party.
We cleared off a mountain of leaves from the flower borders, which have been bagged up with the aim of turning them into leaf mould. There was a little bit of weeding and trimming to do and the planters have been redone with winter flowers. We hope some time soon to get a team together to repaint the fence - get in touch if you would like to help out! |
